Welcome to The Weekly Whoop #5!
This Hunt continues the format of The Turkey Hunt from last weekend, albeit with some tweaks. There is a key (aka the riddle — or, more accurately, the context), and your quest is a word search.
The tweak is that we have a 25 × 25 square grid for the word search instead of the 30 × 30 turkey-shaped grid from last weekend.
Each word must be deciphered using accompanying prompts and two clues (released with a time delay) and located in the grid.
A reward of up to US $ 500 is up for grabs.

Alright! Let’s dive into the Hunt.
The Key
Honestly, this isn’t a riddle. The word search’s prompts are enough. But let me get my poet’s itch out of the way and call it ‘the context, in verse.’
Think about the zeitgeist it points at, and complete the quest.
Old-timey hawkshaws, not yet hard-boiled. Criminals and catspaws, whom they foiled. Gumshoes and flatfoots, gentlemen thieves. Half-lives, half-truths, rolled-up sleeves.
Alright, on to the quest.
The Quest
Use the key and the 20 prompts below to complete the word search.
Words are placed left-to-right, right-to-left, top-to-bottom, bottom-to-top, and the two diagonals (going top-to-bottom and bottom-to-top).
You can complete the word search online (interactive and free) at Word Search Labs.
You don’t need to create an account on Word Search Labs if you don’t want to. The interface is intuitive.
The website strikes through a prompt, like so, when you find the correct corresponding word. It awards you a star once you have found all the correct words.
When that happens, use the website’s Print button to make a PDF of the completed word search and send it along with the logic via DM (below) or email.
As far as I know, there is no option to save the completed solution to your account (should you make one on Word Search Labs), making the PDF option doubly important.

The Clues
The clues are helpful hints released with a time delay. There will be at least two clues for this Hunt.

The Rules
The rules of the Hunt:
Complete the Hunt by completing the word search.
Partial solutions are a no-no for submission, but you can discuss them with me during the Hunt.
The deadline is 1800 hours Pacific Time on Monday, December 09, 2024.
The Hunt ends when someone completes it OR if the time runs out.
Whoever completes the Hunt first (within the timeframe) wins1
Ask questions, seek clarifications, confirm answers, brainstorm, and send the solutions (and logic) via DM (preferred method) or email.
The Rewards
There is only one reward. It will go to the person operating the Substack account that sends through the first complete and correct solution.
Annual subscribers are eligible for a $500 cash prize.
Monthly subscribers are eligible for a $250 cash prize.
Free subscribers2 are eligible for a $125 cash prize.
Say you are the first to complete the Hunt. You can upgrade to a particular subscription tier and become eligible for the prize corresponding to that tier.
